Due to heavy rain and river conditions the whitebait season has got off to a slow start. However, DOC staff still seized five nets from whitebaiters fishing in rivers in the Gisborne Whakatane Area.

Sunday 15th August marks the start of another whitebait fishing season for areas other than the West Coast of the South Island. Whitebaiters are reminded that DOC staff will be patrolling fishing sites to check people are abiding by the whitebaiting regulations.

Moko found dead on Matakana Island
