The Department of Conservation’s website has been redeveloped. The redevelopment has involved two key areas of change and enhancement:

  1. A new tool for managing the site’s content has been tailored to the department’s needs. This will make the site easier to manage – thus increasing responsiveness and effectiveness.
  2. The look, structure and features of the site have been redesigned in line with the results of research into its users' requirements. This will make the site easier and more satisfying to use.

In particular you’ll notice:

  • More navigation by maps.
  • Fewer navigation options at each level (making it quicker and easier to make choices).
  • Introductions that explain what you will find when you click a link, so that you can decide whether it’s what you are looking for.
  • The ability to find information on a region by region basis through the ‘By region’ section.
  • Plenty of interlinking between sections.
  • A breadcrumb trail showing you where you are in the site.
  • More, and more consistent, recreation information designed to help people plan their visits.
  • Plenty of images.

Together these changes will improve access to information and help us to support conservation outcomes.

The department is committed to continually improving the service its website provides for its users. We welcome your feedback and comments on the website, particularly if you have noticed any errors.  Please use our website feedback form for your comments.
