Manapōuri Weedbusters

The community group Manapōuri Weedbusters is an extension of the national Weedbusters organisation which began targeting broom, cotoneaster and darwins barberry on one section of the Manapōuri lakefront in January 2003.

The success of this project has encouraged locals to work together to tackle other weed hotspots around the township.

Weedbusting working bees are community events and usually include activities for children and a barbecue or morning tea for all.  Our motto is Everyone Welcome, Everyone Needed!

Working bees generally involve both light and heavy gardening and non-gardeners are always needed to assist in other ways (such as making tea or taking photographs!).

The group has received a lot of support from the Department of Conservation, Weedbusters, Environment Southland and the Southland District Council and the local Community Development Area (CDA) group.
